ARENARIA: AROUND A STONE, THROUGH THE TREES, INTO THE CLOUDS:

Georgia Tech Women’s Pavilion. Living Public Sculpture and Website

A landscape fabric holding the history and legacy of Georgia Tech Women. Glistening mosaics emerge from a grounded bench taking off through the tree scape across the main pedestrian path, culminating in celebratory canopy near the student center. Poetic snippets of women’s stories etch into the work. The evolving tensioned structure expresses collectivity, connectivity, journey, and celebration. The work will update annually.

The project includes an interactive website—a digital twin—hosting additional content and an interface to build connections between content.

Arenaria: a flower, a common yellowjacket, an arena of arias. bloom, swarm, sing.

The subject of women is slippery and charged because it wrestles with the story of power and opportunity. I hope this structure holds and extends deep time by honoring the complexity of multiplicity. I think of her as a mythical creature curled around a rock, expanding into the clouds. She is strong. She is flexible, plural, visible by only reflecting her environment. She's a swarm, a serpent, a river. She's armored. She's magical, imbued with stories, with voices. She is loud. She is a whisperer. She is ugly. She is beautiful. She takes space. She gives back. She holds. She shelters. She shimmers. And ultimately, her effects are more important than her shape. She is a collective courage.
